94 Accord starting problem...Any thoughts?

My buddy has a 94 Accord Lx Automatic. Recently it won't start sometimes and sometimes if he gives it some gas(like if it were carburated) and it will start. It did this 2 months ago and I disconnected the battery, listened for the relay and fuel pump both working. I also pulled the plate under the back seat hoping it was the fuel pump like my civic but just the gas gauge. I put everything back together and worked for the past 2 months and now its doing it again. Any ideas before I start replacing stuff that doesnt need replacing?
